Molyneux joins Microsoft Game Studios
He's been teasing us over Twitter for the last couple of days, and this evening Peter Molyneux finally told the world (and a frantic E3 audience) that he is set to be promoted to the role of creative director at Microsoft Game Studios.
The Lionhead founder, who spoke about Microsoft's 'Natal' motion control technology on Monday, will oversee the publisher's entire output, managing internal and third-party studios.
Molyneux hopes to promote strong communication between the creative parts of the outfit, the veteran telling GI.biz that he will be there to offer guidance as needed: "I'm definitely not going to go in and say 'this is a dumb idea' and 'this is a good idea'. I'm more about making sure they really are doing the experiences they're passionate about. Because passion is really central.
"That's probably going to involve innovation, I'm going to be pushing them more on the innovation side, especially with project Natal, and saying, 'look, don't think you've got all of your design comforts here any more, let's think of a new way of doing all that.'"
Molyneux will continue as the boss of UK game maker Lionhead - a Microsoft first-party developer - who are presently working on two games for the Xbox 360.
