Speaking at their E3 press briefing, have announced a brand new motion controller for the PlayStation 3 console.

Unlike the motion technology, this contraption will still be based on a remote-style device, which which will replicate exact motions using a light-sensor linked to a camera atop the TV screen.

Full motion promises to be detected, and we were shown a technology in which various weapons, rackets, clubs, flashlights et al are placed in the demonstrators hand - within the virtual world.

A first-person mode was also shown-off, Sony clearly enthused by the potential of this technology. A laser-style whip was also pulled off with aplomb, while the technology also allows you to reach into the screen and move virtual objects.

An impressive paint tool was also shown off, as with Microsoft's own 'Natal' demo - while a real-time demo was also revealed. Another segment showed off naturalistic sword fighting.

More is promised on the PS3's motion controller very soon, with a launch in spring 2010 promised.
