Xbox 360 motion control 'Project Natal' announced
Mattrick shows us 3D motion capture tech
Don Mattrick has just confirmed that a full-body motion controller is on the way to the Xbox 360. Microsoft are promising true controller-free gaming. The system will be compatible with all 360 systems, as well as future consoles.
In addition to motion, the new system will include voice control, as well boasting full integration with Xbox Live. The system is code-named 'Natal' at this point.
A fighting game was shown off, as was a monster-stomping title, a driving game (complete with pit-stops), as well as offering snapshots of other titles, too.
Steven Spielberg took to the stage to help show off the new system, talking up the full body motion control, which sounds a lot more advanced than the Wii's own pioneering technology.
The director talks of new levels of interactivity, "not a case of reinventing the wheel - but removing the wheel entirely".
One tech demo showed off full 3D movement; the player hitting balls into targets in order to progress. Another demo was a painting utility - complete with voice controlled colours.
No release date has been confirmed, but we're told development kits will be sent to game makers from today.
