Schafer was unsure over Black for Brutal Legend
Lemmy was considered
Game designer Tim Schafer has said that he and his team were unsure they would be able to recruit Jack Black for the role of roadie Eddie in Brutal Legend, despite the actor and musician having clearly been the inspiration for the character.
The designer told VG247 that Double Fine were simply not sure they would be able to persuade Black to star in the game, even though his influence in the title is more than apparent.
"We were just inspired by him. When I saw School of Rock it reminded me of how I'd wanted to make this game for years: just that character, and how sincere he was, how much he loved metal," Schafer explained.
"When we cast the voice, we were like, 'We don't want to get an imitator. That would just be stupid.' Then we heard through secondhand information that he really liked Psychonauts, and that gave us the courage to get in touch with him. We pitched him the game, and he loved it. And he signed up."
Motorhead frontman Lemmy was considered for the role. The game will be out in October. Sorry, Rocktober.
