Aion gives NCsoft a helping hand
Profits up as new MMO launches
New MMO release Aion has been doing all kinds of favours for NCsoft's bottom line, we learn today. Apparently the new release has seen sales rise some 51 percent in the first quarter of 2009.
This huge boost in sales came as profits were up a whopping 128 percent, hitting 34.3 million USD. Aion was responsible for much of this boost, the game taking as much as Lineage 1 and 2 combined.
NCsoft has been struggling of late, the once mighty online specialists struggling in the face of successful competition from Blizzard and their titanic World of Warcraft. Tabula Rasa was also a high profile flop for the firm.
Still, the company's finances are certainly looking a little healthier, even if Tabula Rasa creator Richard Garriott are pursuing the firm for 25 million USD in the US courts.
More on NCsoft as we get it.
