British wolverine renamed for X-Men launch
Welcome to the weekend
The UK only has one resident wolverine (I learn for the first time this afternoon), and even this poor beast has been degraded as part of a marketing stunt ahead of the launch of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Yes, Edinburgh Zoo have renamed their wolverine 'Logan' - as part of a special sponsorship deal designed to aid the promotion of Hugh Jackman's new Wolverine movie and the related video game, which launches today.
On the plus side, Activision have made a hefty donation to the zoo; sponsoring the wolverine enclosure, that will help secure the future of a breeding programming into 2010.
Activision have delivered us some frankly incredible photographs of the zoo's lonely wolverine, being terrorised by promotional materials for the new X-Men title.
"What better way is there to pay homage to the mighty Wolverine by making sure his real life cousins are cared for during the next year?" enthused Activision executive Aruna Sinha.
"With wolverines an endangered species, we see Wolverine having a major role in helping people become more aware of these wonderful creatures and ensuring their survival for many years to come."
Just look at the pictures.
