The console version of the cult was only recently announced, but GameBanshee cite an contact as having confirmed that developer Red have been forced to cancel the game.

Apparently, the developer were working on a brand new Witcher IP in addition to Rise of the White Wolf, and this too has been axed as the global economic downturn bites.

Several staffers have departed the company, we hear, while only The Witcher 2 (a multi-platform sequel to the original RPG) is to continue development.

We're awaiting official word on this from the developer, or from publisher Atari.
