Final Fantasy producer admits to pressure
New RPG needs to sell big
The development team working on Square Enix's new Final Fantasy are feeling the heat, producer Yoshinori Kitase telling Edge that the IP demands greater success than smaller titles.
"I'd say we need this game to have ten times the success of these smaller titles," the producer admits in a new interview.
"But I don't think that means we've compromised in terms of the game design or creativity in any way. Indeed, the development of the game has very much followed in the tradition of the previous titles in the series, welcoming input from the full range of development staff."
The game has been in the works for some five years, while a Japanese demo is now available. Final Fantasy XIII will be a PS3 exclusive in Japan, but will be released on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in Western markets.
