Six Days in Fallujah sparks controversy
Konami's war game raises hackles
Konami's new Iraq war game has ruffled more than a few feathers this week, the mainstream media finding their attention piqued by the game's setting.
Six Days in Fallujah will be set in the 2004 battle in which US and Iraqi soldiers were killed, during what became one of the largest fights of the conflict.
"Considering the enormous loss of life in the Iraq War, glorifying it in a video game demonstrates very poor judgement and bad taste," the father of one British marine killed in the conflict, told the Daily Mail.
"These horrific events should be confined to the annals of history, not trivialised and rendered for thrill-seekers to play out."
One veteran of the conflict is also concerned by Konami's new game, telling the newspaper: "It's much too soon to start making video games about a war that’s still going on, and an extremely flippant response to one of the most important events in modern history.
"It's particularly insensitive given what happened in Fallujah, and I will certainly oppose the release of this game."
