Nintendo could be following the model pioneered by Apple, if Develop are to be believed, suggesting that the platform holder are encouraging firms to create "apps" for the new handheld.

The company have been holding a Developer Conference in London this week, and there are apparently plans afoot to produce more "short form" content, given that the will support DSi Ware - and direct access to the shop.

More non-gaming applications could be released for the device, as well as smaller games.

"Nintendo is keen to have developers offering all kinds of software once the DSi store fully launches for access in and America," offered an insider source.

"Given the advanced functions in the DSi, such as the microphone and camera, the company told us that there are a variety of opportunities for a variety of apps, both in a games sense and a non-games sense, that we could offer."
