THQ threaten to close Big Huge Games
Two other developers cast off
Not only have THQ put Big Huge Games up for sale, but we hear that the Rise of Nations developer will be forced to close if a buyer for the outfit can't be found sharpish.
Beyond the uncertain future facing Big Huge Games, THQ owned studios Heavy Iron Studios and Incinerator will be set loose as independent companies, the publisher taking drastic action in a bid to return to profitability.
"In addition, THQ informed the staff at its Big Huge Games studio in Timonium, MD, that it plans to close the studio if a sale is not completed in the near future. These actions were unfortunate but were necessitated by the difficult economic environment," reads official word from the publisher, who were described as having a 50/50 chance of survival by one analyst.
600 jobs are being cut worldwide, with the firm hoping to save some 220 million USD.
THQ only bought Big Huge Games last year, the developer having been founded in 2000. More on this soon.
