No gongs for GTA IV at gaming BAFTAs
Call of Duty 4 reigns supreme (still)
The festivities are over at London's Park Lane Hilton, the great and good of the British games industry having descended for an evening celebrating the very best of the medium alongside BAFTA. However, perhaps the biggest story of the night is what didn't win.
Grand Theft Auto IV may have been a phenomenon but Rockstar's opus went home empty handed, as did Fable 2 and Mass Effect, other titles tipped for success. Instead, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was seemingly the toast of the industry this evening.
Call of Duty 4 (not the most recent World at War outing) took home the awards in the Action and Adventure category, Gameplay, and Story and Character.
Super Mario Galaxy was voted Best Game, while LittleBigPlanet won for Artistic Achievement and Professor Layton took the Handheld category.
The Multiplayer accolade went to Left 4 Dead, while Dead Space took Original Score and Race Driver: GRID went away happy in the Sports award. Civilization Revolution was adjudged best Strategy game, Use of Audio went to Dead Space again and Spore was voted a Technical Achievement.
Boro-Toro was BAFTAs One to Watch, while Atari founder Nolan Bushnell was awarded a BAFTA Fellowship.
