Mobile analytics organisation Mobclix reveal this afternoon that Apple's now offers in excess of 6,000 downloadable games via the App Store, with over 1,500 of these free to play.

Apparently puzzle games are the most ubiquitous genre, with over 2,000 titles, with arcade and games next, both genres offering in the region of 1,300 games.

Then there are games, of which there are nearly 400, followed by over 100 titles. are certainly growing in gaming stature, some analysts predicting that the iPhone, and the iPod Touch, could soon offer the and the real competition.

The PSP is visibly fighting back, too, Sony having announced by name handheld titles like MotorStorm, and LittleBigPlanet. What are your thoughts on the rise of Apple as a gaming power?
