Xbox chief mistrusts Sony's PSN numbers
UK boss unconvinced by Sony's stats
Speaking with UK site Videogamer, Microsoft entertainment chief Steve McGill has said that he doesn't believe Sony's subscriber numbers for the PlayStation Network, the platform holder claiming a cumulative 20 million accounts as of last month.
McGill casts doubt over Sony's method of measuring users, and questions the truth in what the numbers seem to suggest: "Do I believe them? No," the exec rails in the new interview.
He continues: "When we talk about our numbers we feel they're active users who are actively engaged in all the forms of entertainment we offer on Xbox 360. I think if you look at the comments made on the forums, or the comments made by analysts at Screen Digest then there's questions over, well what does Sony's numbers really mean? Are they duplicates? I think there's a lot of questions there."
McGill concludes his assault on Sony suggesting that only Microsoft are capable of delivering the kind of online experience that Xbox Live offers, the big cheese talking up the service's status as the largest online video-on-demand service in the UK; and worldwide. More Sony-Microsoft hand-bagging soon.
