Creative Assembly keeps RTS faith
Genre not in decline, says studio boss
The Creative Assembly's studio director, Mike Simpson, has said in a new interview that the UK RTS developer aren't worried by the genre's move towards consoles - and that the Total War series will survive unscathed.
Speaking with GI.biz, Simpson says that his team have faith in the future of the RTS, and are basing their work on its expansion; not its collapse.
"It is quite a complicated issue, and some of it's related to the whole console life cycle as well - when a new generation of consoles comes out, PCs suddenly look quite unfavourable by comparison.
"But three of four years later, when you compare the price of a PC with the price of a console, suddenly you're getting more power for your money with a PC, and things tend to shift back.
"That's happened with all the previous generations - so I think there is a natural cycle."
Microsoft have of course just shut down RTS developers Ensemble, seemingly shifting their focus to other kinds of games.
