The latest numbers are in from Japan, the outselling every other system in last week's battle. The launch of Sega's action-packed 3 is credited with seeing Sony's next-gen console take a rare lead.

PS3 sales for the week topped 36,000, followed by the on just under 36,000. Excitingly, the was just behind Nintendo's handheld, with over 35,000 units sold.

After these three close competitors there's a bit of a drop down, where the picks up with sales of just under 18,000. Then there's the with nearly 12,000.

A whisker off Microsoft's console, with just 21 fewer sales, is the Lite handheld - the last with over 5,000 sales.
