TIGA, the trade body that supports independent British game developers, have warned that the risks losing its status as the world's third biggest games market, unless the government can offer more support to the business.

The UK is presently ranked third behind the and Japan, but countries like Canada are closing in fast, warning the UK is the most expensive nation in which to create games. Countries like Canada, for example, offer developers large tax breaks.

A new survey by the trade group found that 41% of foreign government offer some support in the form of subsidies, while 31% of those responding said that UK taxes were just too high.

Boss Richard Wilson is calling for a tax break similar to that offered to the UK film industry, stating that a games equivalent would also be far cheaper to implement. What are your thoughts on this?
