Yet more idle chit-chat this evening on the long rumoured PSP-4000 handheld, sometimes described as PSP2.

We've already had Acclaim chief Dave Perry proclaiming that he's heard about the new model - which will apparently feature a sliding display front, and will drop the UMD drive that was a mixed blessing for the current SKU.

Eurogamer.net believe they've heard more on the new model from a insider 'close' to Sony, who has reportedly confirmed the absence of the UMD drive, as well as the sliding screen design.

The screen is reportedly the same as the PSP-3000, albeit with a sliding structure, which sees most of the system's controls hidden behind the screen until revealed. This makes the whole unit much narrower we hear.

When the sliding panel is closed, most features are inaccessible, however, the shoulder buttons are still available - and these will offer some control in a few areas (such as in games like Loco Roco 2) that only use the shoulder buttons.

Apparently, media playback will be a new focus of PSP-4000, while we're even told are searching out developers willing to make games using just the shoulder buttons.

More speculation as we get it.
