Xbox 360 leads Japanese weekly sales

Square Enix RPG credited with rare sales surge

Star Ocean: The Last Hope from Square Enix is being credited with giving Microsoft a rare victory in Japanese hardware sales, the Xbox 360 outselling the PS3 and the Wii during the week ending February 22nd.

The 360 managed sales over 21,000 units during the week, followed by the Wii on nearly 17,000, and the PS3 on just under 16,000.

The new Star Ocean was also Japan's best selling new game, managing sales of over 170,000 in the four days following its launch in the land of the rising sun.

How long this resurgence can last remains to be seen.
