Reeves defends PS3, dodges PS4 talk
Reeves responds to Euro-grilling
Chatting in an extensive interview with UK site Eurogamer.net, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe chief David Reeves says that the PlayStation 4 is off the radar; the executive mounting a strong defense of the PlayStation 3.
"I think people are concentrating so much on what's happening now that they’re not even thinking about it," he said on the prospect of PS4, stating that he'd heard no mention of a successor to the PS3.
He added that the PS3 is likely to remain the most expensive system of the 'big three', with Sony targeting profitability this year, even if it means the PS3 sells fewer consoles than its rivals.
Reeves also took issue with the idea that the Xbox 360 is stretching ahead, stating that the PS3 is "neck-and-neck" with Microsoft's system, despite the rival console's drastically lower pricing, the boss stating: "It's almost as if we've gone ten rounds as Mohammed Ali and we’re still standing, because we didn't drop the price. We held firm."
The boss went on to attack the 360's reliability in the wake of the red ring of death 'issue', and noted that Sony don't ask for exclusive deals with companies like Capcom and Konami. Lastly, he assures us that 2009 is definitely going to see the PSPs games line-up boosted, adding that major new releases will be confirmed for the PS3 over the coming months.
