Sony confident despite sales slide
Shares down as firm goes defensive
Having revealed some pretty depressing financial results this week, Sony have been defending their performance, assuring us that the PS3 is still on track to meet expectations this year.
Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda says the console will still sell 10 million units this year, despite the fact that 2008 sales totals actually fell below 2007's numbers, at a time when Sony really needs to start catching Microsoft and Sony.
"Relatively speaking, [compared to] the growth of other platforms, we are behind, but it’s not the case that we are not meeting the target," the big cheese told Edge.
In related gloom, Nintendo also have problems of their own, the company having to revise their outlook for the financial year - predicting fewer Wii sales and lower profits.
Sony stock is down 6.7%, while Nintendo's fell 12.5%, off the back of this miserable news.
