Sony rubbish PSP2 plans

There's nothing like a spot of spurious rumour-mongering to kick off an otherwise dull-grey Tuesday morning, and with this in mind IGN today tell us that PSP2 is in development, and that the device will incorporate a multiple touch-screen interface.

While talk of touch-screens does of course spark comparisons with the DS, the report draws parallels with the IPhone, instead, talking of "multi-touch" technology as part of a widescreen design.

Apparently, touch-based interaction will be used for both menu navigation and game control. A PSP-4000 has previously been mooted for release this year, although Sony inevitably offer us nothing on any of this.

For now, then, this remains pure gossip, but we'll keep you posted.

Update: Well, that came quicker than we might have predicted, Sony assuring to MCV that they certainly aren't plotting a new model PSP, describing IGN's insider-led reports as "nonsense".
