Pandemic reveal Dark Knight issues
Licensing and organisational problems abound
As you may recall, EA were working on a new Dark Knight game last year, before the Pandemic title was apparently pulled because development was progressing too slowly.
With Pandemic Australia now cut-loose from EA, several developers have been talking to Kotaku in more depth about why the project failed.
Apparently, all of Pandemic's early work on an official Batman game was rendered useless when EA informed them that a new title would have to be based on the Dark Knight.
We also hear than the proceeding work was very hasty, as EA were working to beat a deadline of December 2008, when their rights to the Batman IP were set to expire - Pandemic apparently made good progress - but it became apparent this deadline would be missed, so the game was axed.
For their part, Pandemic's developers admit that they also faced internal challenges. The game was set to be an open-world title, but none of the team had experience working on such a game, while the Saboteur engine being used wasn't adept for the task.
More on all things caped, soon.
