NPD sales see Xbox 360 trounce PS3
Wii and DS take December by storm, still
The NPD Group sales data has been unleashed in North America, showing December's games industry performance, and confirming what many had suspected, namely that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 comfortably over Christmas.
According to the latest sales data - off which the industry frequently hangs - the 360 outsold the PS3 by 2 to 1 over the course of last month.
360 sales were up from 1.26 million in December 2007 to 1.44 million in December 2008, well ahead of the PS3's figure of 726,000 units - a decline from 2007's 798,000.
The PSP sold more strongly, sales topping 1 million - the PS2 managing a still-noteworthy 410,000.
Of course, while Microsoft might have landed bragging rights this time, the real winner was Nintendo - the DS managing 3.04 million sales over the month, the Wii 2.15 million.
Overall, US game sales were up 9% on 2007 - the largest revenues ever.
