Word in from developers CCP, creators of the long-running EVE Online, confirm this week that their opus has hit a new record, simultaneous users hitting an epic 45,186.

"It is truly a testament to our loyal fans that 5 years into EVE’s existence we are still breaking records and more people are flying in New Eden than ever before," beams word from CCP.

EVE has been running for some five years, and this new record was hit in early 2009; impressive, given the stiff face in the online genre.

All hasn't been smooth sailing for the firm, however, the developer admitting they may be forced to leave is Iceland for investment purposes if the government doesn't lift currency restrictions aimed at protecting the country's embattled economy.
