Speaking with this site in a new interview to be published this week, Newcastle's creative director Simon Woodroffe has assured us that his team have faith in the publisher, and that the firm's financial worries have not impacted the creation of Wheelman.

"When you've had two to three years of your life invested in a project - some people have been on it three-and-a-half-years - it takes over your life in some ways. Ultimately, we're all here to make this game as good as possible. Midway will sort their our independently. The best way we can help them to help themselves to help this studio is to make Wheelman as good as possible," he offered when asked about the company's business problems.

"From our points of view it is slightly concerning, but I don't feel there is a need to be particularly concerned by it... although I can see how it looks to the outside world, internally it isn't a big deal. We still need to make Wheelman as good a game as possible. There's no reason not to do that."

There has been speculation that Midway could run out of funding in a matter of weeks if new support for the game maker is not found, Viacom boss Sumner Redstone having sold his majority stake in the firm for 100,000 USD in a bid to cut his own company's debts. The firm has also announced that 25% of staff will be laid-off.

We'll bring you all the latest on Midway, and Wheelman, as we get it.
