Gaming could be hit by recession - Reeves
Although sales unaffected at present...
Despite experts predicting that gaming will not be hugely impacted by the fallout from the global financial crisis, Sony Computer Entertainment boss David Reeves has told RTL that the industry is not 100% recession-proof.
"From our point of view which is in the videogames division, in PlayStation, it’s not recession-proof, of course," the president revealed.
"I don’t think any industry is, and eventually we may see a downturn."
He said at the moment the company are still hitting their targets - people spending more on "at home" purchases while restaurants and bars suffer - but it is unclear if this will last.
"We seem to find that in times of recession that people tend to stay at home, but they still want to be entertained."
SCEE will be unaffected by lay-offs at Sony, the boss adds.
