Nintendo wins November sales race stateside
NPD data looking bad for Sony
The latest NPD data is with us, revealing that Nintendo cleaned-up in the USA last month, while Sony finished a distant third, the Xbox 360 putting in a solid performance in second place.
The Wii console, once again the so-called 'must have' Christmas goody, sold 2.04 million units, more than doubling last year's total for the Big N.
For Sony, however, it was a case of slim pickings, the PS3 only shifting 378,000 systems - less than the console managed in the run-up to Christmas 2007. The PS2, meanwhile, sold just over 200,000 units - less than half last year's tally.
November's digits confirm that Microsoft is definitely having a good Christmas, the 360 managing 836,000 sales despite Nintendo's record-breaking total; more than 2007's 770,000.
Despite the economic malaise, total sales were still up 10% on last year, thanks in the main to the Wii by the look of things.
Here are the totals:
Wii - 2,040,000
Nintendo DS - 1,570,000
Xbox 360 - 836,000
PSP - 421,000
PlayStation 3 - 378,000
PlayStation 2 - 206,000
