Chatting with EA's investors yesterday (conceding that revenue is being revised downward in the face of disappointing sales), big chief has revealed that the new Knights of the Old Republic will be based on a micro-transactional business model.

BioWare's was expected to function on a traditional monthly subscription system, a la World of Warcaft, but it appears and have been eying the success of this South Korean approach to game funding.

"We are continuing to stick to the plan relative to building out our direct-to-consumer models which include micro-transactions and subscriptions," Riccitiello explained.

"The recent launch of is a great example of that.

"Other initiatives we’ve announced, for example MMO, are mid-session games which are micro-transaction-based. You’ll be hearing more about those in the February call."
