Wii takes Thanksgiving crown
800,000 consoles sold from 'Black Friday'
With the dust having settled over the key Thanksgiving sales period in the USA, Nintendo emerge as the main benefactors of the pre-Christmas spending splurge, revealing sales of an incredible 800,000 Wii consoles over the important weekend.
The company hit 350,000 last year, and even this was impressive, but the Wii really is heading into uncharted waters with this latest performance.
"When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list - fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list," boss-man Satoru Iwata told Reuters.
The DS also did well in November, we hear, sales up 20% stateside, while we're expecting full NPD results for the month very soon. Sony and Microsoft have yet to comment on their respective performances during the month.
