Sony ordered to cough up in patent dispute
PSP tech infringes old WiFi patent
Sony has just lost a US court case over wireless technology used in the PSP handheld, we hear. The platform holder will have to pay compensation of 18.5 million USD.
A US court agreed that Sony had deliberately infringed on patents held by Agere Systems, covering wireless LAN technology. More than just the PSP, mylo and Walkman products are also guilty of using the network firm's technology.
Agere has merged with LSI since the original patents were filed and it was this company that pursued Sony.
It is unclear if Sony will pay up immediately, or whether they're considering an appeal.
