Mattrick takes Avatar credit
Forget Nintendo...
Speaking with Official Xbox Magazine (thanks VG247), Microsoft executive Don Mattrick has said that he invented the concept of Avatars (being introduced soon via the New Xbox Experience on November 19th) way back in 1991.
Microsoft's introduction of Avatars to Xbox Live has of course sparked controversy, some commentators inferring the new system is borrowed from Nintendo's Mii approach. However, it turns out that 'the Don' is behind the whole idea.
"I’m claiming to have invented avatars! I did 4D Sports Boxing! Do you know what 4D Boxing was? Hey, you should be writing this! That was me," he enthused.
He continued, when his assertion was queried: "C'mon! It’s human, it’s in 3D, it has a face… it was genuinely the first time there was something human-shaped in 3D! Look it up!"
We invented the internet too, so we're not sweating, either.
