Acti explain Sierra game cancelations
Kotick speaks out on 50 Cent and co
Activision Blizzard boss-man Bobby Kotick has been explaining why a number of high profile Sierra titles (Ghostbusters, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Brutal Legend included) were culled, following the merger between Activision and VU Games.
Kotick suggested that the games in question lacked the "potential to be exploited every year across every platform".
While these games might not be Guitar Hero or Call of Duty, THQ seemed very happy to be picking up 50 Cent, while Atari will now deliver the potentially big Ghostbusters.
"With respect to the franchises that don't have the potential to be exploited every year across every platform with clear sequel potential that can meet our objectives of over time becoming USD 100 million plus franchises, that's a strategy that has worked very well for us," Kotick offered, when his strategy was questioned by investors (thanks Seeking Alpha).
With their lofty goals in mind, Acti-Blizz are now working on 15 properties, with 70 titles planned for 2009.
New games will be unveiled in due course, we hear.
