Inferno film rights head to Universal
But EA say nothing on new game
As rumoured last week, Electronic Arts is said to be hard at work on a gaming rendition of Dante's Inferno, a classic poem set, you've guessed it, in hell itself. A modern take on the poem is hinted in internet rumours, and at the time it was reported that EA were discussing movie rights with a number of studios.
Universal have apparently now won the bidding war for the rights, according to Variety, with a seven-figure fee hinted. Paramount, New Regency and MGM miss out, as do Warner Bros.
Previous EA movie deals have been done only after games were announced, in the case of The Sims and Mass Effect, but with Inferno the game hasn't even been confirmed yet.
We expect EA to fill us in come the new year.
