As rumoured last week, Electronic Arts is said to be hard at work on a gaming rendition of Dante's Inferno, a classic poem set, you've guessed it, in hell itself. A modern take on the poem is hinted in internet rumours, and at the time it was reported that were discussing rights with a number of studios.

Universal have apparently now won the bidding war for the rights, according to Variety, with a seven-figure fee hinted. Paramount, New Regency and MGM miss out, as do Bros.

Previous EA movie deals have been done only after games were announced, in the case of The and Mass Effect, but with Inferno the game hasn't even been confirmed yet.

We expect EA to fill us in come the new year.
