Critics have been savaging the new film, released last weekend in the States, and Realms have admitted their 'bemusement' with the manner in which the film strays from the source material.

The 20 Century Fox stars Mark Wahlberg, and is still America's number one flick at present, takings topping 18 million USD.

"There are several fundamental story flaws ... in the film that have me shaking my head in bewilderment," boss Scott Miller is quoted as stating, according to CVG. Miller created the first Max Payne game, alongside Remedy.

Miller notes the "lame" manner in which one of the main enemies dies as disappointing, also pointing out the seemingly mild impact of the story's 'super-drug'.

The game maker continues: "A big problem with the film is that we do not really know what is driving Max until we see the flashback scene showing him coming home and finding his murdered. In the game, we put this scene right at the front of the story for a reason!

"Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him."

Ouch. Have you seen the new film, folks?
