Nintendo confirm DSi handheld
Camera and music in, thinner design, bigger displays
At a Tokyo press event held early this morning, Nintendo unveiled the new DS handheld that was first hinted at in reports from Japan at the beginning of the week. The new device will be called the DSi.
The new gizmo will lose the existing DS GBA slot, and will be 12% slimmer than the current DS Lite. It will includes two built-in cameras (prizes for guessing what Ninty will do with these), and music playback support.
The screen sizes are on the up, as well, the new model boasting 3.25 inch displays, and there is a new SD memory card slot. Web browsing is now in there as well, and we're told you'll be able to use the DSi to take pictures which can be viewed big-screen style via the Wii.
A DSi Shop will be opened by the Big N, allowing users to browse for software for the new handheld, and it'll carry DSiWare products in a similar manner to WiiWare on the Wii. Users are being given 1,000 DSi Shop points for free - valid until March 2010.
Free, 200 points, 500 points and 800, and “Premium” pricing categories are mooted.
The console will launch in November, in Japan.
