News just reaching us from the USA reveals that from today US gamers can get their grubby mitts on a brand new GameCube for a paltry $99, which is more than a little reasonable - making a Cube available for little over half the cost of a PS2 or Xbox. Nintendo will no doubt be hoping that this new bargain basement price will lift flagging sales, which could also be stoked by the arrival of the new Mario Kart game. Nintendo might even have to start making the Cube again, once the new pricing helps retailers shift their heavily stock-piled supplies.
Lets hope Nintendo will offer bemused European gamers an early Christmas present in the shape of a price-cut to €99 here, too.
However, with pleasure there's always pain, and it's another hard blow for Nintendo as Atari yesterday confirmed they had canned development of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Driver 3 on the Cube. Support has not been removed entirely however, but with Nintendo's main problem being one of poor third-party support, it's disappointing to see future Cube titles getting the chop.
