Metaboli today confirm that they are merging with the previously Turner-backed GameTap videogame download service. That's the word in from Edge this week.

Apparently, the united service will attempt to create a "global gaming brand" - although Metaboli will persist in Europe, while GameTap will remain the brand for the time being.

There will be no single name, then, but clearly the combined firm will boast some hefty clout. "This is a true partnership and even though Metaboli is taking over operations in 2009 this is not an outright acquisition by them," a representative told Edge.
