ELSPA talks up PEGI ratings
BBFC isn't good enough
The ruling Labour Party has been told by ELSPA chief Paul Jackson this week that the BBFC is not equipped to rate games in the United Kingdom.
Speaking at an event linked to the Labour Party Conference, he said that the UK should move to a PEGI only ratings solution.
"A linear ratings system like the one the BBFC uses is designed for films with a beginning, middle and end where the outcome is always the same," he argues.
"It just can’t cope with the infinite variety and complexity of modern videogames, and the interaction between players."
Jackson apparently notes that UK ratings are often out of step with the rest of Europe, while PEGI is also better equipped to handle online gaming and the new world this offers, he says.
More on this ongoing tussle as we get it.
