World of Warcraft today takes it first fledgling steps towards becoming a games platform in its own right, announcing that a special version of Bejeweled will be released to play in-game.

The classic title will be offered free to WoW players - this being the first game-inside-a-game offered via Blizzard's popular MMO. The title was made as a plug-in for the game, a function usually used by community modders.

Classic and timed game modes are included, and there's also a clever Flight mode will arrives everytime you take a Flight across the game world. Bejeweled will also launch if you die before your pals do in a raid.

The WoW add-on will be released via PopCap's site this week.
