Rare's "skillsets were from a different time" - Moore
Original Xbox was culled over 70 USD HDD
Speaking once again to Britain's Guardian newspaper, EA Sports boss Peter Moore continues to dish the dirt en masse about his time at Microsoft.
Today he claim's that UK developer Rare, expensively purchased by Microsoft several years back, is staffed by "great people", however "their skillsets were from a different time and a different place and were not applicable in today’s market."
Moore fears gamers aren't excited by Rare's creations any more.
"It’s a strong statement but what they were good at, new consumers didn’t care about anymore, and it was tough because they were trying very hard - Chris and Tim Stamper were still there – to try and recreate the glory years of Rare, which is the reason Microsoft paid a lot of money for them and I spent a lot of time getting on a train to Twycross to meet them."
Elsewhere in the interview Moore also reveals that Microsoft brought forward the release of the Xbox 360 because the cost of producing the hard-drive in the original system "killed us".
Moore affirms there was no way to bring down the production costs, and so the difficult decision was taken to knock the original system on the head and bring out the 360 - which includes an HDD-less SKU.
"To this day people still believe we left the Xbox too early but it was purely for financial purposes," he concludes.
