There's yet to be any sneak peaks of 4 out of QuakeCon in Texas this week, but have been talking about their new FPS, Carmack revealing that the new title will look miles better than their first new Tech 5-based release: Rage.

Speaking in a keynote at the fan event, the big-brained JC said Doom 4 will boast "three times the graphical richness" of Rage, which is no slouch itself. Rage, though, will run at 60 frames-per-second, the new Doom fixed at 30.

However, by the time Doom 4 arrives technology will probably have evolved to the point where the game will run at 60fps on that format, while the consoles will be somewhat behind around the 30fps mark.

Details are scant, but id CEO Todd Hollenshead did say that the game would "kickass", helpfully, promising plenty of the series' trademark elements. It won't take four years to develop, we're also promised.

More on Doom 4, Rage, et al as we get it.
