Doom II RPG set for mobiles, id eye iPhone

id Software revealed at their QuakeCon event late last night that a new Doom II-based RPG title is in the works for mobile platforms. id Mobile chief Anna Kang announced the new role-player at the fan event, underway in Texas right now. The newly formed division also demonstrated their Wolfenstein RPG, which will feature plenty of Nazi battling, castles and more no doubt.

In related news, id also let attendees know they are hard at work on a couple of new iPhone games. John Carmack told attendees the new games are extensions of their existing mobile work, and one will be a graphical peach, the other described as "unexpectedly exciting".

The id supremo is clearly enthused about the potential of the iPhone, but took a gentle swipe at Apple, noting that the firm doesn't "deeply get games", despite his frequent appearances at Apple events.

It certainly sounds like we can expect more Apple-focussed games from id in the future. More out of Texas as we get it, meanwhile.
