EA bolsters Nintendo support, considers grandiose Spore future

EA let slip today that they are plotting the release of some 40 games on the Wii and DS. This news comes a day after big boss man John Riccitiello admitted EA were too slow to appreciate the potential of both formats.
News of EA's re-doubled supports comes in the wake of strong sales for Steven Spielberg's Boom Blox on the Wii, the game having now sold some 450,000 copies.
News of these new games arrive via EA's latest financial report, which also lets us in on a loss of 95 million USD for the quarter just concluded. That said, sales for the same quarter did double over last year, so it isn't all doom and gloom.
Chatting with investors during a conference call, Riccitiello also revealed that EA hope to charge for downloadable Spore content after the game's September launch. He suggested that they might "monetise, if you will, body parts, plant parts, car parts and planets as a way to generate incremental revenue on an installed base of several million active users".
The exec clearly has high hopes for the IP, too: "I would love to imagine that two years from now or a year from now the debate is whether or not we need a 'Spore' label inside of EA."
More soon.
