Northern Ireland anthem mistake forces EA apology
Apologies accepted
Electronic Arts have been forced to apologise over a politically sensitive mistake in their UEFA Euro 2008 sports game release.
In the officially licensed game, the Northern Ireland national anthem is 'The Soldier's Song', which is embarrassingly actually the anthem of The Republic of Ireland.
"At EA Sports, we pride ourselves on delivering rich and authentic videogame experiences," apologised EA’s Shaun White. "We sincerely apologise for this error."
Accepting the apology, Northern Ireland sports minister Gregory Campbell noted: "Obviously there’s has been a lack of knowledge on the makers’ part and hopefully it will be changed as soon as possible. Perhaps this will be the only time supporters want to see Northern Ireland lose."
