Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has mooted the desirability of episodic gaming, the chief telling the Piper Jaffray consumer conference in New York that a move away from hard goods will minimize the risks of making and selling games.

"If we can get a good model for episodic content for high quality titles, that should be a pretty profitable business because there are no hard goods associated with it," Kotaku quote the exec as stating.

Micro-transactions also interest Zelnick, the boss noting the way such systems help the player "change the way characters look, weapons, cars and the like."

He told the conference that micro-transactions can also help "turn packaged goods partially into a subscription business, and drive some of the volatility out."
