BBC man mocks PS3, Xbox 360 media claims
iPlayer choice backs multimedia minnow
Speaking about the BBC's decision to partner with Nintendo's Wii console for their iPlayer service, rather than the PS3 or the Xbox 360, BBC reporter Darren Waters has spoken on his blog of the 'irony' of the move, which mocks Sony and Microsoft's posturing as multimedia giants.
"How ironic that it is the Nintendo Wii, and not the Playstation 3 nor Xbox 360, that becomes the first of the current generation of consoles to have a truly dynamic range of online video content," he said.
"The BBC’s announcement of a deal with Nintendo to put the iPlayer’s streaming service on the console makes something of a mockery claims by Sony and Microsoft that their consoles are the true multimedia machines."
The iPlayer service is, in part, already available on the Wii, delivering hours of BBC television to Nintendo's console. Quite what Microsoft and Sony make of this remains unclear.
