Valve battle for TF2 content to remain 'free'
PS3 and Xbox 360 "should" be free
Valve Software are battling to ensure that new maps for Team Fortress 2 can be delivered to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners free of charge.
"The maps will come to the console versions," Doug Lombardi has revealed on the topic of new content for the game. "There's a bit of work that makes sense for us to bundle them up and release them as packs."
Lombardi also assured that he hopes the content will remain free, although it seems there is some ambiguity. "So, for us, for free is the way to go. The gamers play the game, they want to keep playing the game, so we've collected their fifty bucks at the start, and once they're in the park, they can ride any ride they want in the park. So, for us that's been the philosophy."
Whether Sony and Microsoft see it this way is another matter, it would seem.
Valve see free content as key to building trust around there games, taking the issue of value for money "off the table".
More soon.
