Speaking in a keynote address at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, have officially confirmed that 2 is in development.

Excitingly, the Gears sequel will be released this November as an exclusive. Which is, its fair to say, somewhat earlier than we expected it.

Speaking during Microsoft's address, big cheese Cliffy B confirmed that the new game is in development, with John Scappert talking up the successes of Live at the same time.

The Unreal Engine 3 was one of the talk's highlights, Epic boss Mike Capps showing off advancements to the technology, with a version of Gears on display demonstrating improved animation, physics and a marked increase in the number of enemies on-screen.

More on Gears 2 as we get it.
