A specially designed has been unveiled by Panasonic this week who dutifully lift the lid on a new Plasma TV designed, for a start, to withstand a Wiimote impact.

According to its makers, the TV can absorb a four Joule kinetic energy impact - via a special transparent coating covering the screen. This should help it take the full forces of a Wiimote without shattering apparently, and comes after a few high-profile incidents of televisions and windows and the like being broken in the heat of gaming.

Of course, the Wiimote does include an enforced wristband, but Panasonic clearly feel some gamers may be sufficiently concerned to invest in their special television, designed for the purpose.

The Wii-proof TV has yet to be priced or dated, but it is indistinguishable from a normal screen, unlike a recent Taiwanese set, which included a rather obtrusive Wii 'shield' on the front.
